Sabrina Ramos

Blues Dance New York Co-Director

Sabrina ramos

Sabrina Ramos is Co-Director of Blues Dance New York and one of the dynamic forces behind Express Track Blues alongside her partner-in-dance, Virginia Jimenez.

A lifelong dancer with a heart for rhythm, Sabrina’s dance journey has taken her through a variety of styles. But it was at an afterparty of a lindy hop event where she stumbled upon the magic of blues dancing—and it was love at first groove! From volunteering and DJing to running the show, her fearless "let’s do this!" attitude has taken her to some pretty cool stages, like DJing at Lincoln Center and opening for King Solomon Hicks!

Working collaboratively to bring Express Track Blues to life has allowed Sabrina to grow as a producer, continuing to fuel her passion as she launched her very own event production company, Pop Spark Agency in 2023.  And while she’s usually running around making sure everything is perfect, don’t hesitate to ask her to dance—you might just remind her to have fun at her own party!

Virginia Jimenez is Co-Director of Blues Dance New York and Organizer-in-crime with Sabrina Ramos for Express Track Blues.

Virginia believes that she learned to dance before she walked. Her grandmother taught her how to dance and how to perform at JoMar Dance Studios in Trinidad, CO. She literally stumbled into blues by becoming part of the swing dance club at the University of Northern Colorado. After moving to New York City in 2013, she sought out the local blues dance scene and has been part of BDNY ever since! All of the best friends she’s ever made in NYC have been in the social dance scene.

Currently, Virginia lives in her hometown of Trinidad, CO with her incredible husband (who you’ll get to meet this weekend!). In Trinidad she has applied her organizing skills and general awesomeness to the local community theatre and Creative District. While she loves being close to her parents again, she really misses being part of the community in NYC. She is really excited to dance with you!!

Letter to our Blues Dance Community

Dear Blues People,

We (Sabrina and Virginia) wanted to send you a little note letting you know why we feel compelled to organize Express Track Blues, and our BDNY activities in general.

Firstly, we do this because blues dance is something that we both adore! It is a medium that allows us to express ourselves, jam to our favorite music/musicians AND it happens to come with awesome social benefits at the local and national levels! Because of this, our choice to be organizers is a labor of love. It means we love blues and we love you!

For the last few years, our goal has been to rebuild our scene. We realize that many communities are still struggling with the longer term after effects of the pandemic. Everyone’s lives have shifted in numerous ways, and while we can’t combat that change, we can adapt to it. We want to adapt our scene to fit our community's needs. We want to make sure to meet you where you’re at because if we can do that, we can share our love of blues with you. We want you to be part of our community!

We felt that this year was the year to bring Express Track Blues back because we want to elevate our scene and strengthen our collective knowledge of blues. ETB 2024 is the beginning of our future goal to create opportunities for you to learn and grow in your love and knowledge of blues dance, music, history and culture. It isn’t always easy to grow; it can be difficult and painful. It isn’t always easy to be a guest in someone else’s house; it can be uncomfortable. We want to address our growing pains and discomfort with compassion while maintaining a friendly and enjoyable environment. Express Track Blues is for everyone who loves to blues dance, to listen to blues music, to learn about cool new things in the blues world.

Logistically speaking, we wanted to mount ETB this year because we had enough money to get it rolling. Everything is more expensive than it used to be, and we are doing our best to keep the event affordable. That said, this event is for you! If the cost is a barrier, let us know! We can always use more help; we are always open to trades; we will always treat you with compassion and do what we can to keep our doors (and arms!) open to you.

We look forward to dancing with you this weekend! Hop on the Express Track with us!

With love,

Sabrina and Virginia
